INVENTED FUTURE TRADITION
2014
The concept of the Invented Future Tradition is to turn a tradition from the Czech Easter Monday - "Whipping Day" - into a new cultural practice that gives women the power and resources to defend themselves against the whippings that occur. While in current day the whippings are mainly joking and generally just a tap on the leg with the pomlazky, this tradition still creates the sense that violence against women is acceptable. The new invented tradition turns pieces of the traditional Kroj into a stork costume, allowing the woman to collect pieces of Kroje from her friends, thus giving her the power to fly away from the whippings.
